The area began as a modest settlement known as "The Corners" in the early 1800s. Its unique name, Macedonia, was inspired by theology students from Western Reserve College who, when invited to preach in the area, would reference the biblical passage, "Come over into Macedonia and help us"

One of the city's historical landmarks is Longwood Manor, a Tudor Revival house built in 1924 by Colonel William Frew Long, Macedonia's founding mayor and a veteran of both World Wars. The manor, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, stands as a testament to the city's commitment to preserving its heritage.​

Today, Macedonia is home to approximately 12,000 residents who take pride in their community's blend of historical charm and contemporary amenities. The city has a strong emphasis on homeownership and the community is invested in maintaining and enhancing their homes.
